A local transgender woman, Eesha Chaudhry of Rawalpindi city, was hit by a motorcyclist yesterday. The collision left both Eesha and motorcyclist severely injured and unable to move. Although a crowd immediately gathered, no-one assisted Eesha. Instead, they only helped the motorcyclist who was at fault. (He was also underage and without a license.) Unaided, Eesha eventually managed to drag herself to the nearest hospital and called her friends and guru for further help.

This is not the only example of shocking treatment to our transgender community. Many consider transgenders not as people with the same equal rights as every body else, but a source of ridicule, abuse, violence, or mockery.

This inhumane behavior needs to stop now. Transgender women are as much a respectable part of society as any other woman in our society is.
